Sacraments

When St. Joachim’s welcomes people to liturgy and to sacramental formation, we invite and encourage them to full, conscious and active participation in the life of the Church and the mission of Jesus Christ.

Baptism

Baptisms for children 5 and younger are celebrated five times a year in January, April, June, August and October. . If the child’s life is endangered, special arrangements can be made. If the parents are registered in the parish, and actively participating in Sunday liturgy at St. Joachim’s for three months prior to the baptism, they are able to complete the Baptismal Registration Form available in the rectory.

If the child’s parents are not registered, they must first attend a Welcoming Session on the second Sunday of the month at noon at the Gym Meeting Room. At this session they will be invited to register and become actively involved in the Sunday Liturgy and the life of the Church. After being registered and participating at St. Joachim’s for three months, they can then register for their child’s Baptism at the rectory.

Reconciliation

The sacrament of reconciliation is every Saturday from 3:00pm-4:00pm. If you are unable to go during those times please contact the parish office.

High School Confirmation

The Diocese of Oakland’s policy for those baptized as infants requires that formation take place during high school. At St. Joachim we offer a two-year process. Our hope for them is that they grow as disciples of Christ and learn more what that means in the Catholic Church.

Some youth have been immersed in the Gospel through their families and faith formation opportunities. The process toward celebrating the sacrament will enable them to go beyond that experience to an owned faith in Christ and his mission within the Catholic Church.

First Exposure: The first year the young people commit to regularly participate in the youth gatherings on Sundays, the Sunday Eucharist, and in outreach activities. They learn to share the Scripture in a group, to pray, to participate actively and to connect with people who share different interests.

Beyond a First Exposure: In the second year they actively participate as leaders in faith sharing, community and outreach activities. They move from observers to active participants at Mass, in the gatherings and in their lives. They witness to inclusion and compassion.

The high school confirmation group meets on Sunday mornings at 9:00am. For further information please contact the religious education office or visit htem online at www.sjrocs.org.

Matrimony

We welcome couples to inquire about celebrating their marriage at St. Joachim Church. Either the bride or groom (or both) must be a registered member of St. Joachim Church. Preparation for marriage takes at least 6 months, and not less, as required by Canon Law. We welcome couples who have been married by a justice of the peace to inquire about having their marriage blessed.

Anointing of the Sick

Ideally, a priest should be called to administer the healing sacraments while the seriously ill person is still at home. Household members are encouraged to participate in the rite.
